Anyone go to Port Dover, Canada, for their Friday the 13th event? 70,000 bikers did last Friday. No , I didn't, but our NY State Troopers were making sure you were safe. They were checking for oem exhaust systems, expired inspection stickers, outdated regs and insurance compliance before you crossed the Peace Bridge. All in the name of "Safety Education". 30+ tickets were handed out , which also covered illegal helmets. Now anybody who pays attention, knows that the NYS troopers are always setting up roadblocks for this event. Every Friday the 13th, regardless of the weather, season or month. 13th of Friday, Port Dover. Largest single one day event in North America, or something like that. So if you're going to Canada, leave the candy dish on the kitchen table and put on your approved DOT helmet. It'll save you the ticket, because they are waiting for you. Now don't you feel "educated" ?

Permalink Reply by BBNX on April 16, 2012 at 11:11am We're lucky here, so far, in that there have been no "check points" as of late. Do they have the same "safety" stops for vehicles...?
Permalink Reply by Robert on April 16, 2012 at 1:20pm No, Only motorcycles. Ongoing problem here in New York. In Western NY, we see it when there is an event such as this, or other local domestic events.

Permalink Reply by Sindee on April 17, 2012 at 7:52am I didn't even realize NY had helmet laws....! I wasn't at the event but 70,000 bikers is huge! That's a LOT of bikes traveling to and from an area for a one day event! And they pulled over EVERY bike? How many cops where there....? How long were the lines to get over the bridge...?
