Heading to Sturgis for this first time this year. There are a few of us going but we are all "first timers." I could REALLY use some suggestions......
Literally, the "DO's and DONT's" of Sturgis! ANY input will be appreciated! How about one "DO" and one "DONT" from anyone kind enough to respond. :)
And if you haven't been to Sturgis either just post a DO or DON'T about bike rallies in general!
THANKS Fellow BLN Members! :)

Do: Reserve your campsite NOW!
Don't: Overpack
Permalink Reply by Sindee on January 22, 2013 at 6:34am Do - Give yourself enough time to get there. No point in trying to ride 500 miles per day.
Dont - Stay too far outside of Sturgis.
Permalink Reply by BranDEE on January 22, 2013 at 7:36pm "(& don't smooth dogs with orange eyebrows )" What in the FUCK does THAT mean....?? LOL!!!
Permalink Reply by Cole on January 22, 2013 at 3:19pm Don't think you will see it everything, and be able to do it all in one week. There is just to much there.
Do ride as often as you can. The Black Hills have alot to offer.
Permalink Reply by BranDEE on January 22, 2013 at 7:40pm You SHOULD plan to ride out of Sturgis after a day. Gets to be the same old shit after one or two days.
You SHOULDN'T ride to Mt Rushmore. WAAAAAAYYYYYY too crowded. Too many cowboys on the road trying to make every turn. Not worth the BS.
Permalink Reply by Sindee on January 31, 2013 at 7:11am I thought you'd get hundreds of responses! Especially since it was a mass email..... WTF? People can't help???
Permalink Reply by Brent Cassidy on February 1, 2013 at 4:56pm Drive the speed limit, dont drink too much and drive, obey traffic signs, dont hot rod and the cops should leave you alone.
450 mile in a day for travel is plenty, that is what tomorrows are made for, more riding! Give Sturgis a day and all of your nights.
Hill City, Crazy Horse, Needles (not as bad as they say it is) Mt. Rushmore in a day.
Deadwood, Hewlett(preferably on a Wednesday), Devils Tower, Sundance, Spearfish Canyon in a day, and get a burger(the best you've ever had) and a beer at Louies outside of Lead.
See all the big bars in and around Sturgis and walk the strip down town, One Eyed Jacks is the a good one. Be sure to eat at the Loud American.
Dont pack too many T shirts, you will buy plenty there.
Have Fun!
Will see you there! ha!
Permalink Reply by Gail on February 26, 2013 at 9:36am 450 a day is plenty..... We try to stick between 300-400. It kills me to meet people that ride 20 hours per day to get to Sturgis. Crazy. What's the point?
Permalink Reply by tom richardsn on February 24, 2013 at 11:56pm start making all motel, camping resavations now, they will be sold out fast.
Permalink Reply by Gail on February 26, 2013 at 9:37am GOOD point. In fact, the "good ones" are probably already sold out.

Pack light going because you'll be loaded coming home.
Make sure your rain gear is easy to get at. Plan for the weather day by day as you ride, if you can. I've seen it Snow, rain, hail, and be 90 degrees all in the same day depending on where you are coming from.
Make sure you plan gas stops based on the person with the smallest tank.
Plan on riding the Black Hills every other day or so. There's so much to see outside of Sturgis.
DON'T
RIde drunk or dirty. There are cops everywhere.
Try to see everything, it's just not possible. See what you can and go again next year.
Worry. It's going to be a blast!
